Mandarin Oriental Spa - London I've been meaning to go to the Mandarin Oriental Spa in London for some time now and I finally got over there a couple of weeks ago for a 3 hour treatment. I often find that city spas are usually not the most relaxing environment. You can usually hear outside noises that are distracting or somehow you still feel as if you are in the middle of the city. This was quite the opposite experience. Immediately when you walk in the front door you feel a sense of calm with the soothing light and Asian inspired decorating. I was greeted by the spa receptionist and given a short form to fill out and some green tea.
Then, I was escorted downstairs to the locker rooms which had fresh cranberry juice and water waiting. Before my treatment I sat in the warm vitality pool which was heaven on earth. In case you are unaware of what a vitality pool is (a new common trend in Spas) it is a small warm pool that incorporates numerous features to aid in releasing tired joints. It has hydrotherapy body jets, floor jets and a reclining lounger which massages the whole body. There were cold towels sitting next to it which was the perfect added touch. Both the female and male locker rooms also have an Amethyst Crystal steam room which is maintained at 42 - 45 degrees Celsius. Amethyst crystal is known for it's healing properties to ease headaches and migraines, release tension and increase concentration. The body is warmed slowly and continuously, reaching inner body and organs. There is also an aroma injection of Eucalyptus which refreshes the whole body and great if you have a cold. There is also a sauna if you prefer that over steam.
