Jemma Kidd Make-Up School

Last week I took a few classes at Jemma Kidd Make-Up School to get some more specialized training in some areas of make-up. This was the first week of their new school schedule which is directed by the fabulous Make-Up Artist, David Horne.

I looked at taking some classes at Jemma Kidd a while back and was a bit turned off by the prices and at the time they only offered long courses. I recently checked the site and found their shorter courses which was a better fit for me financially. I was very impressed by the variety of courses that were practical for any make-up artist or a consumer. They have courses such as Ethnic Beauty, Smoky Eyes, Eye Shape Enhancement, Digital Beauty (touching up photos), Airbrushing and more. When I called or emailed, Janie who runs the show over there (on the business end) was happy to answer any of my questions and always quick to respond to my emails.

Because this was their first week of the new location and school, they were literally painting and unpacking boxes and I was the only one in my classes. Normally, they would only allow a minimum of 3 people but this week they made the exception. All classes take no more than 8 people so you are guaranteed individual attention. I was very lucky because I got tons of one-on-one time with David...

David is a brilliant artist. I learned more tips and tricks (Tips & Tricks will be posted over the next week or so in the "face" category) in those two days than I did in any other programs or lectures I have been to over the past few years. His talent is knowing good product and being able to show you how to do minimal make-up that really makes a dramatic difference. What I also love about the courses now is that David doesn't just use Jemma's products. He uses a variety of things including Jemma's (there are some great products in her new line) so you don't feel like it's a school that's just marketing product. He is also very honest about why he loves what he has in his kit and what products he's not fond of.

Janie went out and got us lunch at the break which was complimentary of the school. This was a really nice touch (for larger classes they plan on ordering out and setting up a nice lunch at a table in the studio for students). I also left with some great Jemma Kidd products which I will write about this week. I think that there's a reason  for the saying, "You get what you pay for". This will be a very professionally run program with great products to take home including a beautiful light space in Notting Hill and amazing educators. When I look at their 6 week program now I realize how much they offer in that time and I really have changed my opinion on the program. In addition, they also have a two week professional program. I will definitely be back for more refresher courses because I think the art of make-up is constantly changing and as an artist you need to constantly enhance your skills and learn from other artists. Stay tuned...
